Egyptian Sarcophagus, Cartouche symbol
This symbol is from ancient Egypt. It is otherwise known as the shenu from the Egyptian word sheni that means to encircle. The elongated circle/loop symbolizes eternity and has no beginning or ending. In the center of the elongated circle is the name of the high ranking person (many times Kings and Queens) name and hieroglyphics. The cartouche became a symbol of protection of persons of high standing in Egyptian culture. The sarcophagus was made to be shaped like the cartouche.
This piece is silver color with a silver coil and is approximately 2 inches in length.
